Chilled Water System Optimization for Injection Molding

Show full item recordAbstract
This design project states the motivation and need for a chilled water system at Berry Global to be evaluated and optimized. The system is explained as well as the problems that it currently faces. Articles which dive into topics such as reducing energy usage, determining the process cooling demands, and how to optimize a chilled water system through the installation of a controls system are discussed. The overall objective of the project is to provide Berry Global’s “South Molding” injection molding machines with reliable chilled water. The final design achieves this objective by utilizing the excess capacity from another chilled water system, the North Molding Chilled Water system. This allows the current South Chilled Water system to be decommissioned which decreases the number of assets that need to be maintained in the plant. Calculations supporting the final design are documented throughout this report.Collections
